Helen's Tower

Helen’s Tower was built by the 5th Baron of Dufferin and Clandeboye and is a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture.  It was built as a lookout but also as a shrine to a poem that was written by the Baron’s mother for him on the eve of his 21st birthday, this poem is inscribed on a metal plate in the upper room of the three storey stone tower.  To honour his mother, this enchanting tower perched on the hill in the Clandeboye Estate was named Helen’s Tower.  In 1975 Helen’s Tower was graded as a Grade A listed building, after a period of neglect in the 1980’s it was restored and can now be rented as a holiday accommodation.

A replica of Helen’s Tower was erected in Thiepval, France to commemorate the Ulster Men that had lost their lives in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

Helen’s Tower is set 2,000 acres of woodlands, formal and walled gardens, lawns, a lake and 250 hectares of farmland, it’s a beautiful place to spend leisurely time walking and appreciation the splendour of this natural environment.
