Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

Sway with the wind as you cross the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and take in the stunning views along the Causeway Coastal Route, best known as an outstanding area of natural beauty in Northern Ireland.

Carrick-a-Rede one of Northern Ireland’s most loved attractions, cared for by the National Trust, a registered charity founded to protect beautiful and special places for ever, for everyone.

The rope bridge has woven its way between Carrick Island and the County Antrim mainland across the Atlantic Ocean, Carrick-a-Rede Island is the final destination and home to a fisherman’s cottage steeped in history and heritage.

Suspended almost 100 ft (30 m) above sea level, the rope bridge was first erected by salmon fisherman 350 years ago.

Brave the exhilarating experience by crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge high above the water and open to the elements – Feel the creak of wooden slats in the rushing wind. Hear the waves swirling in beneath your feet. And breathe in the salty spray rising from below.

Thousands of people come every year to blow out the cobwebs, see beautiful coastal scenery, and spot rare wildlife. In 2016, Carrick-a-Rede welcomed the highest number of visitors ever to enjoy this exhilarating rope bridge experience.

Upgrade your standard admission ticket by £3.50 per person to enjoy a 45 minute guided tour of Carrick-a-Rede with a well-established local tour guide from Dalriada Kingdom Tours. Departing each day at 3.30pm on site, the tour encompasses memories of the past including the industrial and maritime history, and details of the salmon fishery at an all-time high.

Timed Ticketing

The National Trust introduced timed ticketing to help ensure your experience to Carrick-a-Rede is the best it can be by allowing visitors to plan their crossing in advance of their visit by pre-booking tickets online.

As a conservation charity they are committed to preserving and protecting special places and spaces for everyone to enjoy. This includes protecting ongoing conservation, managing health and safety and trying to ease traffic congestion around the site, therefore a limited number of people can only cross the bridge in any given hour and pre-booking is highly recommended.

The timed ticket to cross the bridge is valid for 1 hour.

The bridge is a 1km walk from the car park, please allow enough time to reach the steps of the bridge for your crossing.

The last arrival time to collect your ticket from the ticket office is 15 minutes before the expiry time on the ticket. If you arrive late we cannot honour your booking and you will not receive a refund.
